No. 7 Louisville women extend win streak to 14 games with 71-59 victory over Cal

BERKELEY, Calif. (AP) — Tatiana Roberts scored 21 points and seventh-ranked Louisville extended its winning streak to 14 games with a 71-59 victory over California State on Sunday.

The Cardinals (21-3, 11-0 Atlantic Coast Conference) are tied with No. 20 Duke in the ACC standings. The Blue Devils defeated visiting Wake Forest 80-44 on Sunday. The Cardinals host Duke on Thursday. The Golden Bears (13-10, 4-6) have won three straight.

Roberts also contributed 5 assists and 4 rebounds. Elif Istanbulluoglu had 15 points and a team-high seven rebounds for Louisville.

Gisella Maul scored 19 points for the Bears. Mjracle Sheppard scored 13 points and Sakima Walker had 12 points and a game-high 11 rebounds.

With 7 minutes left in the third quarter, Moore hit a three-pointer and the Bears led 34-32. Roberts responded with a three-pointer to help Louisville maintain the lead.

The Cardinals went on a 14-2 run, and Roberts hit two more three-pointers. After that, Louisville led 46-36 with 2:50 left in the third quarter. The Bears were within five points the rest of the way.

Cal was without starting forward Tyler Barnes. She was injured in the Bears’ 80-69 win over Notre Dame on Thursday.
