Google Vids Is Now Free for Everyone: Here’s How to Use It

Google Vids, the company’s new video creation and editing platform, is now free and available to all users. The platform will first be rolled out to all paid Workspace users in November 2024. Now, the Mountain View-based tech giant is making a basic, non-AI version of the platform available to those on Workspace’s free tier. While these users will have access to all editing and deck creation tools, they will not have access to the Veo 3 video generation model, storyboard functionality, or AI voiceover tools. Learn how to use the platform.

Google Vids now available to all Workspace users

In a blog post, the tech giant announced its decision to expand the video creation and editing tools to all users, albeit with some limitations. The company also highlighted that Google Vids currently has 1 million monthly active users.

Tools available to users include recording a video of the host and their screen; uploading video from Google Drive, Photos, and local storage on the device; importing slideshows; and choosing from a range of video templates. However, they will miss out on the recently launched video editing feature powered by Veo 3, which allows users to edit videos up to eight seconds long.

It’s worth noting that unlike AI-driven text-to-video generators, Google Vids doesn’t generate videos from scratch based on text prompts. Instead, it can be thought of as a deck creation platform that puts together different parts of a video storyboard based on contextual understanding of the prompts. It then lets the user take over to add the final touches.
