President Donald Trump is very unhappy with Attorney General Pam Bondi, the Wall Street Journal reports.
The Wall Street Journal said the president had repeatedly complained to aides about Bundy, saying she was “weak and unable to effectively implement his agenda.”
Trump’s onslaught appeared to be an effort to get Bondi to more aggressively pursue the president’s agenda through the courts, including against Trump’s political opponents, sources said.
Trump reportedly told allies he was considering appointing a Justice Department special counsel because he was frustrated with the Justice Department’s slow progress on cases in which he was interested.
The president is said to be particularly unhappy with Bondi’s failure to effectively prosecute two high-profile political opponents who have brought cases against Trump: former FBI Director James Comey and New York Attorney General Letitia James.
Separate criminal cases against Comey and James were dismissed in November, and Trump wants to see them reinstated quickly.
The president is also frustrated by the Justice Department’s handling of government documents related to convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.
Trump told staffers he agreed with Bundy’s handling of the documents and was “scornful” of it, White House chief of staff Suzy Wells told Vanity Fair.
Trump has complained that the handling of the Epstein dossier has caused him months of political and personal headaches.
Trump has reportedly taken his complaints against the Justice Department directly to Bondi, and the attorney general has become concerned about the president’s criticism.
A spokesman for Bondi told the Wall Street Journal that the attorney general “has been focused on executing Trump’s directives and making America safe again.”
