A new report about two New York Yankees impact players has bad news for the Pinstripes.

At this time of year, clubs are known for taking big steps to maintain high standards. But by far the most notable thing is outfielder Trent Grisham accepting the team’s $22 million qualifying offer.

Various reports and rumors swirled throughout the winter regarding the organization’s evaluation of the free agent and trade market. Two interesting names that have emerged as potential additions are talented infielders Nico Hoerner and Brendan Donovan.
While neither of the two marquee stars were what New York Yankees fans were hoping for, the Chicago Cubs veteran is a strong center infielder who brings speed and elite defense, while the St. Louis Cardinals’ versatile player earned 2025 All-Star honors for his versatility and hitting skills.
SF Giants ‘aggressively’ pursuing trades for Brendan Donovan, Nico Hoerner

Either one will affect the addition. However, one of them may soon be out of the trading realm. According to ESPN’s Jeff Passan, “The San Francisco Giants are actively seeking a second baseman and have made contact with Chicago for Nico Hoerner and St. Louis for Brendan Donovan.”

The Giants have been pretty quiet this offseason, so they could potentially make meaningful moves in the upcoming spring training.
Apparently, one of the two NL Central infielders would still be available if San Francisco made a trade. But it also means more teams will compete with the New York Yankees for the remaining stars.
