Suzuki e Vitara With Electric 4WD System Unveiled as Company’s First-Ever EV; India Launch Set for 2025

Suzuki launched its first electric vehicle (EV) in production specifications – Suzuki e Vitara – at an event in Milan, Italy, for public launch in India and global markets in 2025. It is built on an all-new electric platform based on the eVX prototype first showcased at the 2023 Auto Expo. The electric vehicle is equipped with an electric 4WD ALLGRIP-e system, a single-speed electric drive transmission and a lithium iron phosphate battery.

The Japanese carmaker said the Suzuki e Vitara will make its debut at India’s Bharat Mobile Expo in January 2025. The vehicle will be produced at Suzuki Motor’s Gujarat assembly plant in spring 2025 for global export as well as sale in India. The electric car will be available in Europe, India and Japan.

Suzuki e Vitara features, powertrain and range

Suzuki says the e Vitara is its first battery electric vehicle (BEV) and is based on the automaker’s new HEARTECT-e platform, which is tailor-made for this type of vehicle. Thanks to short overhangs, the platform is said to have a lightweight structure, high-voltage protection, and offer a spacious interior. It can accommodate five people.

In terms of size, the European standard e Vitara measures 4,275 x 1,800 x 1,635 mm, with a wheelbase of 2,700 mm. The EV has a ground clearance of 180 mm, a turning radius of 5.2 mm, and a curb weight of 1,702 kg. It will be available in 2WD and 4WD drivetrain options, although the latter is said to be limited to higher battery-spec models. The 4WD system is called ALLGRIP-e and has two independent axles at the front and rear. ring

The electric axle itself integrates the motor and inverter to provide agile acceleration when the vehicle is stationary and quick acceleration when overtaking from low to high speeds. The electric car’s electric motor is paired with a single-speed electric drive transmission. It also comes with ventilated discs at the front and rear.

To maximize battery capacity, the vehicle’s floor was redesigned and components were eliminated in favor of a main floor. The e Vitara will be available in two lithium iron phosphate battery pack options: 49kWh and 61kWh. The former has a maximum power output of 106kW, while the latter has a front-wheel output of 128kW. 4WD models equipped with a 61kWh battery pack can deliver an additional 48kW of power at the rear. According to Suzuki, the 2WD model has a maximum torque of 189Nm, while the 4WD model can deliver up to 300Nm of torque.
