Bees are reportedly swarming an interstate in Tennessee after a truck carrying 1 million bees overturned and closed part of the highway.
People are being asked to avoid Interstate 40 East in downtown Knoxville after a crash involving a pickup truck carrying bees.
According to the Tennessee Department of Transportation, the accident occurred around 11 a.m. local time near the Henry Street exit of the highway.
“The ramp from I-40 East to Henley Street is currently closed. A truck carrying bees crashed and the bees have now escaped and are swarming the area,” TDOT spokesman Mark Nagi posted on X.
Nagy reported later in the morning that the cause of the crash was unknown, but that the previously closed ramp had reopened.
Nagy reported that the truck was transporting about a million bees and that the driver of the truck, a beekeeper, was trying to corral the insects.
It was unclear if any injuries were reported.
This is a development story.
