LOUISVILLE, Ky. (AP) — Ryan Cornwell scored 12 points, including seven during a 15-1 run in the second half, and Carney Rose scored 12 off the bench to help No. 25 Louisville beat Notre Dame 76-65 on Wednesday night.
The Cardinals (16-6, 6-4 Atlantic Coast Conference) overcame another cold start to take a 38-28 lead before halftime, but needed much of the second half to gain another double-digit cushion against the stubborn Fighting Irish.

The Louisville team relied on Cornwell’s steals and three-pointers to chase the score to 64-54. With 6 minutes left in the game, Rose scored 5 points in a row in 4 minutes and 26 seconds, and Cornwell scored another 4 points.
Cole Certa hit five 3-pointers and scored 18 points for Notre Dame (11-12, 2-8), which lost its third straight game and ninth in 11 games.
Isaac McKneely scored 13 points on four 3-pointers, Sananda Fru added 12 points off the bench and Kasean Pryor added 10 points as the Cardinals won their winning streak.
Louisville shot 13 of 18 from the free throw line, while the Irish shot just 6 of 14. That helped the Cardinals offset 41 percent shooting, including 7 of 31 (23 percent) from beyond the arc, while outrebounding Notre Dame 46-35 and dominating the paint 40-22.

The Irish made 11 of 27 shots (41%), but shot just 39% overall and 37% after halftime. Brady Koehler scored 11 points.
Notre Dame led 16-9 before Cornwell’s 3-pointer tied the game after Louisville passed the ball multiple times from the 3-point line. The lead changed seven times later, with Mikel Brown Jr. hitting two free throws to give the Cardinals a 27-25 lead and a 38-32 lead, hitting six of eight opportunities to the Irish’s one of two.
