They finished the season with a 3.47 team ERA, the lowest in all of MLB. The closest team to them is the Milwaukee Brewers, who have an ERA of 3.58.
While losing Tyler Mahler and Merrill Kelly in free agency, the club quickly found replacements. They acquired Mackenzie Gore from the Washington Nationals.

Texas has quite a rotation heading into the new season. Jacob deGrom will lead the charge, with Nathan Eovaldi as the No. 2 and Gore as the No. 3. Jack Leiter and Kumar Rocker may follow.

However, there are growing concerns about the future of this rotation. As deGrom and Eovaldi age, Bleacher Report’s Joel Reuter suggests they acquire Minnesota Twins All-Star starter Joe Ryan.
“The Rangers were able to hold on last year largely because of their starting rotation, which led MLB with a 3.41 ERA. By trading for Mackenzie Gore and slotting him behind Jacob deGrom and Nathan Eovaldi, they essentially doubled down on their efforts. Well, why not? triple bet? Ryan is the best starter they can get right now, and trading him would accomplish two things: make the rotation more elite and provide safety for Akiem deGrom and Eovaldi. “
If this plan comes to fruition, Roark is likely to suffer. However, he could transition into a hybrid role, limiting the number of innings he needs to throw, which could help him after coming off a shoulder impingement last year and Tommy John surgery in 2023.
