PSG gets Joao Neves fitness boost ahead of Chelsea match in Champions League

PARIS (AP) — Portugal midfielder Joao Neves returned to training with Paris Saint-Germain on Tuesday, putting him on track to face Chelsea in the Champions League last 16.

That’s a boost for PSG coach Luis Enrique, whose powerful midfielder Fabian Ruiz, who helped his side win the competition for the first time last season, is currently sidelined with a knee injury that has kept the Spaniard out since mid-January.

Neves has been nursing an ankle injury and has missed PSG’s two Ligue 1 games since beating Monaco in the Champions League playoffs last month.

Asked whether Neves would start Wednesday’s first leg against Chelsea at the Parc des Princes, Enrique said: “We’ll see tomorrow, I don’t want to give any clues to our opponents.”

PSG last faced Chelsea in the Club World Cup final in July, when England won 3-0.
