Dr. Abdul-Sayed, who is running as a Democrat for a U.S. Senate seat in Michigan, has faced backlash online after he made several pointed criticisms of Vice President J.D. Vance’s personal life, including his relationship with Second Lady Usha Vance, during a podcast.
“What do you think was going on in Usha’s head when she was talking? She was like, ‘Damn, I have to sleep with him,'” El-Sayed said on “The Ellen DeGeneres Show.” Published on Friday.
“I guess she was pregnant, so something happened,” El-Sayed continued. “Can you imagine, he has brown kids, and at some point, he’s going to have a really awkward conversation with his kids, like, you’ve made your career out of hating people who are different.”

El-Sayed went on to say that Vance’s political philosophy was “incoherent” due to the racial makeup of his family and that the vice president’s soul had been “corrupted” by power.

“He has to look at his kids and say, ‘Yeah, those are Brown kids, they’re mine,'” El-Sayed said. “‘You know what I mean? I have brown children. I have brown children?'”

Said continued, “I love my Brown children and I think my Brown children are as American as everyone else. J.D. Vance has some Brown children and he thinks they are less American than everyone else.”
El-Sayed also said on the podcast that Vance has “the charisma of a doorknob” and “the aura of a toad,” while urging Usha Vance to “get out” of the marriage.

Former Michigan Republican gubernatorial candidate Tudor Dixon was one of several who took issue with El-Sayed’s comments, telling Fox Digital News that she doesn’t believe a majority of Michigan voters will respond favorably to his message.
“When you campaign on racism, you have to constantly stoke racism, especially if you’re a racist,” Dickson said. “Imagine smugly trying to tear apart a family because you don’t believe a white man can love his child. That’s sad, and I think Michigan voters will agree.”
Conservatives on social media were quick to react to the video, accusing El-Sayed of going too far in his criticism of the Vance family.
“This is not politics,” said the Rev. Jordan Wells, founder of the Institute for Christians Against Anti-Semitism. Posted on Xcalled the comments a “low blow.”

Fox News Digital has reached out to Vance’s office and El-Sayed’s campaign for comment.
The Michigan Democratic Senate primary will be held on August 4. El-Sayed will compete with Michigan Senator Mallory McMorrow and Democratic Representative Haley Stevens for the November general election, facing former Republican Representative Mike Rogers.
