Portland man dies after skiing accident on Mt. Bachelor

PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — A 65-year-old Portland man died after he crashed while skiing on Bach Mountain Monday afternoon, the Deschutes County Sheriff’s Office announced.

Officials said the accident happened around 2:15 p.m. on the Wanoga Way Ski Trail, which is located on the east side of Mt. Bachelor near the Cloudchaser Lift.

When authorities arrived, they found skier Nigel Young had no pulse and was not breathing. Despite CPR, Young was pronounced dead just before 3 p.m.

“Young was skiing with three friends who were in front of him and did not witness the accident. Young was wearing a helmet at the time of the incident, but deputies believe he succumbed to his injuries,” DCSO said.

The investigation is ongoing.
