PITTSBURGH (AP) — Tommy Novak scored 17 seconds into overtime to complete a wild comeback as the Pittsburgh Penguins beat the Boston Bruins 5-4 on Sunday.
Anthony Mantha scored twice in the third period to snap a three-game losing streak for Pittsburgh, which was playing without franchise cornerstones Sidney Crosby and Evgeni Malkin. Pittsburgh is second in the Metropolitan Division, having scored in 16 of its last 19 games.

Crosby is out for at least four weeks with a lower-body injury, and Malkin is suspended for the second of five games for slashing Buffalo’s Rasmus Dahlin in the head.
Egor Chinakhov scored a goal, Connor Dewar also scored and Arturs Silovs stopped 22 shots. Chinahoff has 14 goals this season and 11 goals in 25 games for Pittsburgh.
Pavel Zacha had his second career hat trick and David Pastrnak also scored for Boston. The Bruins have lost five of their past eight games. They hold a three-point lead for the final wild-card spot in the Eastern Conference.
Avalanche 3, Wild 2, SO
DENVER (AP) — Nathan MacKinnon scored his NHL-leading 43rd goal and the game-winner in the shootout to give Colorado a win over Minnesota in a showdown between two of the NHL’s top four standings.

MacKinnon has 70 points in 55 career games against Minnesota, his most against any opponent.
Both teams converted one of their first three penalty chances before Vladimir Tarasenko was blocked by Scott Wedgewood and MacKinnon had a chance to seal the win.
Wedgewood leads the NHL in goals against average and is second in save percentage with 32 saves on 34 shots.
Trailing 1-0 entering the third quarter, the Wild scored two goals in a span of 2 minutes and 44 seconds, one on a power play and one on a shorthanded possession, to take the lead. With 7:21 left in the game, the Avalanche scored on a tip-in from Nicolas Roy to send the game into overtime.

Stars 4, Blackhawks 3, overtime
DALLAS (AP) — Defender Miro Heiskanen scored 22 seconds into overtime to give Dallas a win over Chicago.
The Stars have an 11-0-1 record in their past 12 games, ranking second in the Western Conference.
Young Chicago star Connor Bedard scored with 1:20 left in regulation, forcing the Blackhawks to go into overtime with an extra skater.
Maverick Bourque had a goal and an assist for Dallas. Nathan Bastian and Justin Hryckowian also scored, and Casey DeSmith made 12 saves.
Tyler Bertuzzi and rookie guard Sam Linzel also scored for Chicago, and Arvid Soderblom stopped 28 shots. The Blackhawks have a record of 2 wins, 7 draws and 4 losses in the past 13 games.

The Stars turned a 2-1 deficit entering the third period into a 3-2 lead on Bourque’s goal at 42 seconds and Hrykovian’s power-play goal at 9:40.
The Blackhawks took a 2-0 lead in the first period on Bertuzzi’s pass at 6:59 and Linzel’s shot less than two minutes later. Bastian scored Dallas’ first goal late in the quarter.
Soderblom made back-to-back starts for the first time this season, with Blackhawks No. 1 goalie Spencer Knight sidelined due to illness.

BUFFALO, N.Y. (AP) — Josh Doan opened the scoring and ended the scoring with a power-play goal and Buffalo beat Tampa Bay in a hard-fought showdown for the Atlantic Division lead.

Doan broke the tie with his 21st goal of the season with 4:17 left in the game, giving the Sabers their seventh straight victory and a two-point lead over the Chargers.
The two teams played a total of 100 penalty minutes in this game, which included five fights and post-game arguments. They will meet again in the regular season on April 6 in Buffalo.
Doan helped Buffalo score twice in the third period to give the Sabres a three-goal lead.
Alex Tuch and Jason Zucker also scored twice for the Sabers. Sam Carrick and Rasmus Dahlin contributed goals, Takhi Thompson had 4 assists and Bo Byram had 3 assists. Uko-Pekka Lukonen made 21 saves.
