The New York Giants begin their final practice of Week 17 on Friday, but not before interim head coach Mike Kafka expressed optimism about left tackle Andrew Thomas, saying there’s still a chance he can play Sunday despite missing a week of practice.
Ultimately, Thomas was ruled out. Rookie Marcus M’Beau will start at left tackle.

“He’s obviously in a unique situation. Generally speaking, this position has to be ready at all times,” offensive coordinator Tim Kelly told reporters. “Being in the primary position, being able to go out there and not be noticed, it’s really a testament to him and his ability to be ready and stay locked in.
“Even though he might not get all the reps during the week, being able to understand the game plan and still be able to perform at a high level. So, Marcus has done a great job with that. He’s had a full week to prepare and is looking forward to seeing him compete on Sunday.”
The news was equally negative for safety Tyler Nubin and defensive lineman DJ Davidson, who both missed practice for the third consecutive time and were also ruled out.
Meanwhile, tight end Theo Johnson was placed on the injury report with an illness.
