Niko Kovac: “Everyone has a role to play on set pieces”

Borussia Dortmund extended their Bundesliga winning streak to six games with a 4-0 victory over Mainz on Friday night. Head coach Niko Kovac shared his joy in a post-match interview with RTL.

“We are delighted with this win,” said the 54-year-old, as Dortmund also won six consecutive league games with home support. “It was a hard-earned (win). The first half was even, but we were more efficient.

“We steered the game in the right direction with set pieces. Everybody has a role to play in set pieces. And, at the moment, the lads are doing a really good job. It’s very difficult for any team to defend when a pass like this is coming. I’m delighted that it paid off after all the hours of training on set pieces.”

Dortmund will host Atalanta in the first leg of their Champions League play-off tie on Tuesday before traveling to RB Leipzig in the Bundesliga. After their second game in Bergamo, they will go head-to-head with league leaders Bayern Munich.
