The Pittsburgh Steelers lost franchise MVP Kenneth Gamwell to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in free agency earlier this week. Gainwell signed a two-year, $14 million contract with Tampa. Gunwell is the first Steelers MVP to immediately exit free agency since quarterback Neil O’Donnell left for the New York Jets in 1996.

In an interview with Tampa Bay media on Thursday, Ganwell explained why he left the Steelers to join the Buccaneers.
“It was a good choice for me,” Gainwell said. “I wanted to be here last year, but you know, I’m just happy to be here now. It’s a great opportunity for me to come back to the South where I’m from and be here.”
Gainwell totaled 1,656 yards last season, which ranked sixth in the AFC. Spotrac believes Gainwell has the market for a two-year, $5.9 million contract, and Todd Bowles’ team clearly exceeds that market.
