Green Bay Packers defensive coordinator Jeff Hafley has emerged as a leading candidate for the Miami Dolphins head coaching job, according to NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero.
Hafley, who served as Matt LaFleur’s defensive coordinator the past two seasons, impressed in a virtual interview and will be one of the in-person interviews for the Dolphins, who are trying to replace Mike McDaniel after a 7-10 season in 2025.

The Dolphins recently hired longtime Packers personnel director Jon-Eric Sullivan to take over as general manager, so Hafley will be familiar to Miami if he decides to hire him as the team’s next head coach.
Matt LaFleur and the Packers have been expecting Hafley to land an open job this cycle. The Packers have begun searching for a potential defensive coordinator replacement, according to NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo.
Potential candidates could include Packers defensive line coach/run game coordinator DeMarcus Covington, Packers defensive backs coach/passing game coordinator Derek Ansley, former Falcons coach Raheem Morris, former Cardinals coach Jonathan Gannon, Broncos passing game coordinator Jim Leonhard, Eagles passing game coordinator Christian Parker, Ravens defensive coordinator Zach Orr and Titans defensive coordinator Dennard Wilson.
Hafley, who coached defensive backs in the NFL for seven years before eventually becoming the head coach at Boston College, improved the Packers’ defense to sixth in scoring in 2024. Green Bay ranks 11th in scoring in 2025 but is without Micah Parsons for the final four games.
