On Wednesday, Sony made a surprise announcement of the release date, new story details, and new gameplay for Sucker Punch and Soul of the Rampant. The action-adventure game is the follow-up to 2020’s Ghost of Tsushima and will launch exclusively on PlayStation 5 on October 2. The game’s second trailer details protagonist Atsu’s quest for revenge against the six masked gangsters who murdered her family and left her to fend for herself, showcasing stunning visuals, new weapons, and more.
The release date and new trailer of “The Soul of the Goat” have been announced
Titled “The Onryō’s List,” the new trailer blends gameplay and in-game animations and charts Atsu’s path to revenge. A group of criminals known as the “Yatho Six” murdered her family and nailed her to a burning tree, where she lay dying. But Aziz survived, left home and was trained to fight and hunt. Sixteen years later, she returned to Ezo with six names: snake, ghost, fox, spider, dragon and Lord Saito.
The premise is a familiar tale of revenge seen in films like Kill Bill or the recent Assassin’s Creed: Shadows. The game follows Atsu as she hunts down the Yotei Six one by one and crosses their names off her list. Along the way, she will also explore the Ezo region surrounding Mount Yotei and make new allies.
The trailer also showcases Atsu’s new spear weapon, stunning environments, and new gameplay mechanics that take players into Atsu’s past.
“In Ghost of Tsushima, we’ve built on and refined the way players explore the open world, providing more freedom and variety than Ghost of Tsushima,” Sucker Punch said in a PlayStation blog post announcing the game’s release date and new details. “When you choose which member of the Yotei Six you want to hunt down first, you get to choose which clues to follow.”
In addition to the main mission, Atsu can hunt down bounties, find weapons teachers to learn new skills, and explore the wilderness. Sucker Punch says some of Ghost of Tsushima’s side activities will return – perhaps haiku writing? Atsu can also light a bonfire and rest anywhere in the open world, just like in Red Dead Redemption 2.
