He was (apparently) former Michigan football head coach Jim Harbaugh’s favorite player on the team, but given his position, there wasn’t much he could do to join and stay on an NFL team.
Ben Mason was a linebacker for the Wolverines under Harbaugh (having a brief, forgettable spell as the No. 3 tech) but was often considered the “darling” of Ann Arbor. He was drafted by the Baltimore Ravens in the fifth round of the 2021 NFL Draft, making the most of his career in maize and blue. He spent his first season with the Ravens, Bears and Patriots before returning to Baltimore for the 2022-23 season before reuniting with Harbaugh on the Chargers in 2024. But after that year, he officially began his coaching career.

Mason started out at Ithaca as the co-special teams coordinator, running backs coach and tight ends coach. Maybe that spreads things out a bit, as he’s now more focused, taking the Fordham tight ends coaching job.
Fordham is in Division I-FCS, a big step up from Ithaca (Division III).
Mason, a linebacker, is somewhat of a quasi-tight end (or running back), depending on how he’s being used at any given moment. During his collegiate career, he received the Lowman Award given to the nation’s top linebacker by Barstool representatives, Big Cat and PFT Commenter.
