The Chicago White Sox made changes in the infield, cutting first baseman/outfielder Lamont Wade Jr. Wade, a seven-year veteran, signed a minor league contract in hopes of earning a reliever spot and playing in tight situations against right-handers.
However, he had an average spring, hitting .250/.378/.417 with two home runs and 10 strikeouts while driving seven in 45 at-bats. As a result, his tenure with the American League Central club was short-lived.
Wade ready for fresh start after White Sox release
There will likely be a club willing to sign Wade, who has a springy bat and hit a career-high 18 homers in 2021 with the San Francisco Giants. Chicago’s young roster may not be the best fit.

Teams in need of a left-handed bat with major league success can give the 32-year-old a call.
The Giants and Los Angeles Angels held Wade to just 24 at-bats against lefties in 2025, and the results (.298 OPS) were less than ideal.
