Pizza Hut plans to close several stores this year due to poor performance, company officials said.
Brands officially announced during an earnings call on February 4 that it expects to close about 250 stores, according to executives from Yum!, the restaurant’s parent company.
The closures are part of the company’s “Hut Forward” strategy, which is expected to shrink the brand’s global footprint and reduce operating profit by about 15%, Pizza Hut Chief Financial Officer Ron Ricks said on an earnings call.
The company has not said whether any locations in Texas will be affected.
According to the Pizza Hut website, Pizza Hut has 974 stores in Texas.
The closure is also tied to a broader “strategic review” announced by Yum! brand in November, which could include a potential sale of the chain. In addition to confirming the closure, officials said they would not provide further details until the review is completed in late 2026.
“Pizza Hut’s performance demonstrates the need for additional actions to help the brand realize its full value, which may be better executed outside of Yum Brands,” CEO Chris Turner said in a statement. “In order to truly capitalize on the brand we have built and the opportunities ahead, we have decided to conduct a thorough review of our strategic options.”
