Vikings agree to terms with veteran punter Johnny Hekker, a 4-time All-Pro

EGAN, Minn. (AP) — The Minnesota Vikings agreed Tuesday to a contract with four-time All-Pro Johnny Heck, who will begin his 15th season in the NFL.

Heck, 36, spent last season with the Tennessee Titans. After spending his first 10 seasons with the Los Angeles Rams, he spent three years with the Carolina Panthers. In 2012, he joined the St. Louis Rams as an undrafted free agent out of Oregon State University.

Hecker will replace Ryan Wright, who signed with the New Orleans Saints. Heck previously played with the Rams under Vikings head coach Kevin O’Connell and special teams coordinator Matt Daniels. He has never missed a game in his NFL career.

Hecker set a then-league record in 2016 with a net yard average of 46 yards per attempt. In 2025, his net carry average of 40.3 yards per game with the Titans was the third-lowest of his career, but his overall average was a career-high 46.8 yards.
