Vijay Singh shows the kids he’s still got game at 2026 Sony Open

Vijay Singh can still play on the PGA Tour with his kids.

The 62-year-old Singh, who shot four rounds of par or better at Waialei Country Club not far from Waikiki Beach on Oahu, finished with a 1-under 69 on Sunday at the Sony Open in Hawaii for a 72-hole total of 5-under 275.

He joins Tom Watson, who accomplished the feat twice at the Greenbrier in 2013-14, and Bernhard Langer, who accomplished it in Harbor Town in 2020 at the RBC Heritage.

Singer finished tied for 40th, beating out past major champions Brian Harman, Zach Johnson and Webb Simpson, past FedEx Cup champion Billy Horschel and 20-somethings Nick Dunlap, David Ford and Tom King.

Not too bad considering he’s ranked 71stYingshi Driving distance was 282.9 among 75 players, but he was strong around the greens, ranking 12thth Strokes Gained: Around the Green.

A member of the World Golf Hall of Fame, Singer is a 34-time Tour winner and three-time major winner, including the 2000 Masters. Singer has career earnings of more than $71 million, ranking sixth on the tour’s all-time money list. However, there are still concerns on social media that Singh is taking a seat away from a young man on the rise. After all, Singer last made the cut at the 2020 Memorial Tournament, where he tied for 62nd.

What most fans don’t know is that Singer, who has always been one of the hardest workers in golf, began working with a new coach late last season on the recommendation of his former caddy, Paul Tesori, who was dealing with a back injury.

“He’s strong and has lots of energy,” Tesori wrote in a text message to Golfweek. “He wants to have a good year on the senior tour and play Augusta National. That’s his goal.”

Singh becomes the oldest player to advance to the PGA Tour since Fred Couples, who was 63 at the 2023 Masters. Singer also competed in his fourth decade of PGA Tour weekend events since the 1992 Memorial, finishing T-7.
