MILAN — Three-time U.S. figure skating champion Amber Glenn criticized the Trump administration Wednesday morning during a pre-Olympic news conference with U.S. skaters during the 2026 Winter Olympics.
“This is a difficult time for LGBTQ people in this administration,” she said. “This isn’t the first time that we’ve come together as a community to try to fight for our human rights. Especially now that it’s not only affecting the queer community but so many other communities, I think we’re able to support each other in a way that we didn’t have to before, and because of that, it makes us stronger.”

Glenn, 26, said she won’t shy away from talking about the issues during the Olympics.
“I hope I can use my platform and my voice throughout the Olympics to try and encourage people to stay strong during these difficult times. I know a lot of people say you’re just an athlete, like, stick to your job and shut up about politics, but politics affects us all. I’m not going to just stay silent about it because it affects our daily lives. So, of course, there are things I don’t agree with, but as a community, we are strong, we support each other, and brighter days are ahead of us.”
Glenn, a native of Plano, Texas, publicly identified as transgender in a December 2019 interview with The Dallas Voice.
