president Donald Trump CNN reported that Trump was angry that the Supreme Court overturned his sweeping tariffs, calling it a “disgrace” while insisting that he had a “backup plan.” Caitlan Collins reported on Friday.
Trump reacted at a breakfast meeting with governors minutes after news broke that the Supreme Court ruled his emergency tariffs illegal in a 6-3 decision.
Collins posted: “News: I understand that President Trump commented on the Supreme Court ruling lifting tariffs this morning at a breakfast with governors at the White House, calling it a ‘disgrace.’ He told attendees he had a backup plan.”
Members of the media initially attended the breakfast, which was held in the White House State Dining Room, but were ordered to leave by Trump himself shortly after the event began.
As reported by the Associated Press Josh Bock Friday noted that Trump had previously argued that losing the Supreme Court case would upend the economy and that a lack of tariff revenue would only lead to a ballooning budget deficit.
Trump’s former vice president was among those cheering the Supreme Court’s ruling, Mike Pencehe called it “a victory for the American people and a victory for the separation of powers stipulated in the U.S. Constitution.”
