(WHTM) – Tornado warnings are in effect in several Pennsylvania counties, including several in the central state.
A tornado watch means conditions create the potential for a tornado to form.
The alert was issued at 11:30 a.m. for Adams, Berks, Bucks, Carbon, Chester, Columbia, Cumberland, Dauphin, Delaware, Franklin, Juniata, Lancaster, Lebanon, Lehigh, Mifflin, Monroe, Montgomery, Montour, Northampton, Northumberland, Perry, Philadelphia, Schuylkill, Snyder, Union and York counties.
Across the Midstate, several schools have announced early dismissals due to potential severe weather.
The National Weather Service says you should follow these steps during a tornado.

Be prepared for the weather: Continue to listen to local news or NOAA Weather Radio for the latest information on tornado watches and warnings.

at your home: If you receive a tornado warning, go to a basement, safe room, or an indoor room away from windows. If time permits, don’t forget the pets.

at your workplace or school: Follow tornado drills and get to a tornado shelter location quickly and calmly. Stay away from windows and avoid large open rooms like cafeterias, gymnasiums, or auditoriums.

external: If a tornado approaches, seek shelter in a sturdy building immediately. Sheds and storage facilities are not safe. Neither a mobile home nor a tent. If you have time, go to a safe building.

in vehicle: It is not safe to be in a car during a tornado. The best thing to do is to drive to the nearest shelter. If you are unable to reach safe shelter, get into your car and cover your head, or abandon your vehicle and seek shelter in a low-lying area such as a ditch or ravine.
