LUBBOCK, Texas (AP) — Toppin had 31 points and 12 rebounds for his 44th career double-double and Donovan Atwell hit back-to-back 3-pointers in the final seconds to help No. 12 Texas Tech beat No. 6 Houston 90-86, ending the Cougars’ 11-game winning streak.
True freshman Kingston Flemings had a season-high 42 points and six assists for the Cougars (17-2, 5-1 Big 12), who have won their past 16 true road games — all conference games — since losing to No. 8 Kansas two years ago. It’s a school record and the longest active streak in the country.

Texas Tech (16-4, 6-1) scored 55 points on 10 3-pointers in the first half, allowing just 60.1 points against Houston, ranked No. 2 in the nation. The Red Raiders made just two shots from behind the arc after halftime, with Atwell hitting a three-pointer with 5:55 left and another 34 seconds later.
There were eight lead changes and eight ties in the game, with Houston leading 18:41 and Tech leading 18:12.
Tech is 11-0 at home this season and has won five straight games and nine of 10, including a 69-65 loss to Houston on Jan. 6. Tech was the only Big 12 team to beat the Cougars last season, when the Cougars were conference champions and national runner-up.
Atwell made five three-pointers and Jaylen Petty also scored 18 points. Christian Anderson had 12 points and nine assists.

Houston’s Emmanuel Sharp scored 20 points.
Toppin has 44 career double-doubles, second among active players behind Michigan State’s Axel Lundberg (48). Toppin has scored in 32 of 52 games since transferring to Tech from New Mexico State after his freshman season.
