Tata Motors has given a new update to its popular micro SUV Tata Punch, launching the first facelift model. The Punch has remained largely unchanged since its debut, so this update is a clear push for additional technology and everyday convenience. The updated model now features a larger 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system with slimmer bezels and support for wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. New features such as connected car technology, 360-degree cameras, blind-sight monitors, digital instrument cluster and single-pane sunroof have also been introduced. The company has also added a new engine option which is a turbo petrol variant.
The new Tata Punch Facelift comes in six variants – Smart, Pure, Pure+, Adventure, Accomplished and Accomplished+ S. Prices for the updated micro SUV start at Rs 5.59 lakh (ex-showroom). Tata Motors has announced that bookings are now open at its dealerships in India and deliveries are expected to begin soon.
Starting with technology and features, the Punch Facelift comes with significant upgrades in the cabin. The highlight is the new 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system, which is unlike anything seen before. It now comes with thinner bezels and supports wireless Android Auto, Apple CarPlay and connected car features such as remote commands via smartphone, real-time vehicle status and safety alerts. A new 7-inch fully digital driver display has also been added. Another great addition is the 360-degree Surround View Camera, which works with the Blind Vision Monitor to display images from ORVM-mounted cameras on the screen when directed.
In terms of comfort and convenience, Tata has added features such as auto-dimming IRVM, wireless mobile phone charger, rain-sensing wipers and automatic headlights. Punch Facelift also launched the industry’s first in-car PM2.5 air purifier. Monochromatic ambient lighting in an orange hue is integrated in the driver’s footwell, front passenger’s footwell and center console area. Emergency support features such as E-Call and B-Call are also part of the package, providing extra protection in emergencies.
Moving to the interior, the overall dashboard layout remains similar to the outgoing model, but several elements have been refreshed. The Punch now comes with a new 2-spoke steering wheel borrowed from Tata’s new SUV. The seats are newly designed and feature two-tone interior trim depending on the model. There is a center armrest for both front and rear passengers, but the rear armrest has no cup holders.
Under the hood, the Tata Punch Facelift sees a major powertrain update. The standard 1.2-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine continues to be used, producing 88 PS and 115 Nm, mated to either a 5-speed manual gearbox or a 5-speed AMT. The CNG version is now available with manual and AMT gearbox options and produces 73.5 PS and 103 Nm. The biggest highlight is the new 1.2-litre turbo-petrol engine that produces 120 hp and 170 Nm and is mated to a 6-speed manual gearbox.
In terms of appearance, the front end uses updated LED lighting elements. The side profile remains largely unchanged, but the 16-inch alloy wheels have a new design. At the rear, the biggest update is the connected LED tail light bar, bringing the Punch’s design language in line with larger Tata SUVs like the Nexon and Harrier.
