Tata Passenger Electric Vehicles has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Rajasthan Solar Energy Association (RSA) to encourage the use of solar energy for charging electric vehicles in the state of Rajasthan.
The Indian government has been promoting solar rooftops through Prime Minister Surya Ghar Yojana. As a result, India has managed 400,000 solar installations and counting.
The growth of electric vehicles (EVs) and solar energy in India is encouraging the Indian public to drive with zero emissions and no associated fuel costs.
Rajasthan ranks second in India in terms of installed power capacity as it has high levels of solar energy. Jaipur, the capital of Rajasthan state, has one of the highest EV adoption rates in India
Utilization of solar energy
The collaboration between TPEM and RSA will promote electric mobility and solar penetration in Rajasthan, thereby helping to reduce carbon emissions and advance the state’s sustainability commitments.
Customers who install solar power systems at their businesses or homes can also enjoy additional discounts on Tata electric vehicles. The association will also promote the advantages of TPEM electric vehicles across the state.
Balaje Rajan, chief strategy officer, Tata Passenger Electric Vehicles Limited and Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles, pointed out the benefits of combining solar energy and electric vehicles. He further added that more than 90% of electric vehicle owners charge their vehicles at home and nearly 30% use rooftop solar for home charging. “By leveraging this combination, electric vehicle owners can effectively escape fuel costs and achieve zero-cost mobility. This MoU with the Rajasthan Solar Energy Association is an important step towards increasing rooftop solar installations and electric vehicle sales,” he said in a statement.
