T20 World Cup: Rinku Singh leaves Team India camp; rushes back home due to family emergency

TimesofIndia.com in Chennai: Indian batsman Linku Singh has flown back home due to a medical emergency in his family. According to reliable sources, his father has been undergoing cancer treatment for more than a year and his condition has worsened in recent days.

The entire team trained in Chennai today (Tuesday, February 24) around 5:30 pm, but Rinku was absent.

While there is no official news about his absence from BCCI training, TimesofIndia.com understands that he has left the city to be by his father’s side.

Rinku has been a regular in the starting XI during the ongoing T20 World Cup in India. Still, the left-hander’s performance so far has been forgettable, allowing just 24 runs in five innings and an earned run average of 8.00.

It’s unclear when he will join the team. As things stand, his absence is likely to force the think tank to explore other options.

Indian team training is business as usual

For other Indian players in the Nets, it’s business as usual.

Ishan Kishan, Suryakumar Yadav, Tilak Varma and Sanju Samson all hit the net at long length, while Abhishek Sharma hit the ball after holding the ball for long periods of time.

India’s pace spearhead Jasprit Bumrah held a skills-based session with bowling coach Morne Morkel while Arshdeep Singh and Mohammed Siraj extended their arms to the Indian team.
