Strong Kona Storm is expected to impact the islands from Tuesday through at least the weekend

HONOLULU (KHON2) — This storm system will bring the threat of heavy rain, flash flooding, damaging southerly winds and strong to severe thunderstorms from islands to the northwest.

Flash flooding risk could begin as early as Tuesday night on Kauai and Oahu as deep tropical moisture moves into the state’s western tip.

Severe storm brings days of unstable weather

As the week progresses, the storm system will spread eastward, increasing the chance of widespread heavy rainfall and stronger thunderstorms across the state later this week and into the weekend.

Now is the time to secure outside items and clear storm drains, especially on the windward and northern parts of the island.
