The Flowood Police Department reports the shooting happened at the restaurant Saturday night. Police said the victim had pulled into the Chick-fil-A when the incident occurred. During the encounter, the victim was shot in the foot.
Although struck by gunfire, the victim was not injured. Police said the bullet failed to penetrate the steel-toed boots the man was wearing, effectively stopping the bullet and preventing injury. No other injuries were reported in connection with the shooting.
Flowood Police Chief Eric Zetterholm confirmed the details of the incident and said protective footwear played a key role in the outcome. Police have released no information indicating the victim required medical treatment following the shooting.
Investigators identified 39-year-old Kyle Morris Ramos as the suspect in the case. Ramos was arrested in connection with the shooting and now faces multiple felony charges. Ramos was charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, authorities said.
After his arrest, Ramos was taken into custody and booked into the Rankin County Jail. He is being held without bail pending an initial appearance in Flowood Municipal Court, police said. No timetable for that appearance was provided.
Police have not released further details about what led up to the road rage incident or whether those involved knew each other before the incident. The investigation is ongoing and authorities have not said whether additional charges may be filed.
The incident highlights how a potentially serious shooting could result in no injuries, with police believing protective footwear was a decisive factor in the outcome.
