Spurs’ Victor Wembanyama out against Pacers, will reportedly be questionable for Saturday’s game against Trail Blazers

Victor Wembanyama’s MRI on Thursday showed no damage to his ligaments, ESPN’s Michael Wright reported.

While the San Antonio Spurs star did not travel with the team to Indianapolis and will miss Friday’s game against the Pacers, he is expected to be listed as questionable for Saturday night’s home game against the Portland Trail Blazers.

Wembanyama said he hyperextended his knee after Wednesday’s win over the New York Knicks, and he doesn’t believe it will keep him out for too long.

“I almost got back into the game but they had to stop me,” Wembanyama said.

The injury occurred early in the fourth quarter when the Knicks led 102-96. Wembanyama appeared to hurt his knee when he landed after grabbing a rebound. He fell to the ground in pain and needed help.

He then limped toward the locker room.

Wembanya did not return to the game, but with 1 minute and 20 seconds left in the game, he walked to the bench during the warm-up and stood up to cheer for his teammates.

“He finished the game on the bench with his teammates,” Spurs coach Mitch Johnson said. “It made me feel good. I don’t know what to say. But it was nice to see him come out and be able to finish the game on the bench with his teammates.”

The Spurs have a busy upcoming schedule, with seven games scheduled in the next 12 days, including three back-to-back games. Spurs will want to manage him wisely so as not to risk aggravating the injury.
