Sony Launches PlayStation Family App on iOS, Android for Parental Controls on Gaming Activity

Sony has announced a new PlayStation Parental Control app for iOS and Android that allows parents to manage their children’s gaming experience. The PlayStation Family app has customizable features, including adjusting play time, visibility of the games your child is playing, and detailed activity reporting. The app has been launched and is now available for download in the Apple App Store and Google Play Store.

Sony said in a PlayStation Blog announcement on Wednesday that the new mobile app reflects its commitment to “providing safe gaming for gamers of all ages.” While both the PS5 and PS4 consoles come with parental controls that allow parents to adjust game playtime and age-restriction settings, the PlayStation Family app will allow them to manage their children’s gaming experience on Sony’s consoles directly from their mobile device.

Through the app, parents can access detailed play time statistics and be able to set limits and limits on PlayStation usage. The company says the app will provide real-time notifications about the games your kids are playing. Parents can also approve or deny their children’s requests for additional play time beyond the allotted time and access to restricted games. They can also communicate directly from their phone or tablet via the app.

The PlayStation Family app also lets parents view daily and weekly activity reports with detailed information on play time and gaming activity. They can set weekly play time limits and manage spending on the PlayStation Store by adding funds, viewing balances and setting monthly spending limits for children.

Additionally, the app comes with content filters, including presets that automatically apply recommended settings for different age groups, Sony said. Each setting can also be configured individually to suit children of different ages. Finally, the PlayStation Family app can also restrict access to social features on PlayStation consoles. The app is now available for download on the App Store and Play Store in most markets, including India.
