The Texas A&M baseball team opened Southeastern Conference play with a heartbreaking 8-7 loss to Oklahoma on Friday night after blowing a three-point lead in the bottom half of Game 6 at Kimrey Memorial Stadium.
While the Aggies fell short of the Sooners in the series opener, the return of shortstop Chris Hakopian and designated hitter Wesley Jordan was a major positive. Hakopian opened the game with an RBI single and Jordan had a two-out single in the fifth inning to give the Aggies a 7-4 lead.

Texas A&M’s struggles on the mound kept Oklahoma in the game, as the Aggie bullpen allowed 13 hits and four walks. Right-hander Josh Stewart left the game early after suffering an injury on the mound, another negative loss for the Aggies’ pitching rotation.
Heading into a do-or-die second game against the Sooners, Michael Earley’s club must find a way to get more consistent, extended playing time to its starters. Oklahoma State is one game away from Texas A&M returning to Bryan-College Station for a series loss, and the Maroons and Whites will be looking to tie things up on Saturday night.
The result marked Texas A&M’s second loss of the season, and they hope to bounce back tomorrow. Right-hander Weston Moss is expected to start for the Aggies in Game 2 of the SEC opener, while L.J. Mercurius is expected to start for the Sooners.
