Shelby Unveils 2026 Super Snake With Up to 830 Horsepower at $175,885

Shelby American has unveiled the 2026 Shelby Super Snake, expanding its high-performance Mustang lineup with a model that emphasizes straight-line power and visual impact at a lower entry price. Starting at $175,885, the new Super Snake is less expensive than the more extreme Super Snake R, while retaining much of its aggressive design and offering huge performance potential.

The 2026 Super Snake is based on the Ford Mustang GT and can be ordered with or without forced induction. In naturally aspirated form, it retains the standard Mustang GT’s 5.0-liter Coyote V8 good for 480 horsepower. Buyers seeking maximum performance can opt for the Whipple supercharger, which is installed through an aftermarket process and increases output to 830 horsepower using readily available 93-octane fuel. That number makes the Super Snake one of the most capable street Mustangs, even compared to more expensive alternatives.

Although it ditches the “R” name and higher price tag, the Super Snake shares a lot in common with its track-focused sibling, both visually and aerodynamically. Exterior upgrades include a widebody modification with carbon fiber fenders, as well as additional aerodynamic components such as a lower diffuser, splitter wicker and functional air vents. Carbon fiber inserts are also integrated into the aluminum hood and front fenders to aid airflow and cooling.

Shelby also addressed thermal management and durability issues. The Super Snake features an upgraded cooling system that includes a Shelby-specific radiator and heat exchanger. Suspension components and brake rotors are beefed up over the standard Mustang GT, and the car rides on lightweight 20-inch forged magnesium wheels designed to reduce unsprung mass.

Transmission options are the same as those on the Mustang GT, giving buyers the choice of a 6-speed manual or 10-speed automatic. Coupe and convertible body styles are available, broadening the car’s appeal beyond purely performance-focused buyers.

Shelby branding is prominently displayed inside and out. Badges and Super Snake identifiers appear throughout the cabin, including on the seats, rocker panels, puddle lamps and, on manually equipped cars, the shift knob. Each vehicle also receives a serialized dash and engine plate, and all examples are recorded on the official Shelby registry. Production of the 2026 model is limited to 300 units.

While it sacrifices a small amount of peak output compared to the Super Snake R, the 2026 Shelby Super Snake drops significantly in price and remains one of the most powerful Mustangs Shelby has ever produced. For buyers who prioritize horsepower and performance over lap times, it represents a compelling middle ground in Shelby’s modern lineup.
