For Carolina Panthers offensive lineman Austin Corbett, football, family and community are the most important thing.
Corbett has been named by the Panthers as a nominee for the 2025 Walter Payton Man of the Year Award. On Thursday, he and 31 other players were officially announced as club winners, receiving one of the NFL’s most prestigious honors.

But the eight-year veteran didn’t find it in a regular press release or while scrolling through Twitter. He got the news from two heavy metal legends, Metallica’s James Hetfield and Robert Trujillo.

Corbett is participating in this year’s My Cause, My Shoes initiative on behalf of the Everything in My Hands Foundation. The foundation was created by Metallica members to fight hunger, support workforce education and strengthen local communities.
