Pressley eager to keep sought-after Graham until summer

Steven Pressley believes Luke Graham can crack Scotland’s World Cup squad and says it “really makes sense” for the defender to stay in Dundee until the end of the season.

The 21-year-old, who is contracted until the summer of 2027, has been a fixture in Pressley’s improving side over the past few months, with a bid reportedly rejected by Portsmouth last week.

“He’s been really good, he’s really grown,” head coach Presley said.

“Some of the performances he has just made have really been to a high level but again he falls into a category where we don’t want to lose him and only a bid of what we think is market value will change our mind.

“It makes perfect sense for him to stay at the club between now and this summer. I think if he continues to progress in the way he has, he can get into Steve Clark’s mind in this form.”

“Then I think with his experience he’s going to have some good opportunities in the summer.

“In the last three months, for a 21-year-old, he has performed at a very high level. You could see in his performance at Kilmarnock at the weekend that he has taken his game to another level, so he should be proud of himself.”

“But we just hope, like all our players, that they stay at the club.”

Dundee are ninth in the Premier League, having won four of their past five games ahead of Sunday’s trip to Rangers.

Pressley added: “While we have had some very positive results recently, we are far from safe and we will be back there soon, so there is still a lot of work to do to stay in the league and we cannot take our eyes off the ball in that regard.”

“So it will be very important to keep a lot of our players but we, like all clubs in the world except for one or two, are a sales club.

“But one good thing is, and I know this from talking to people above me, no player is going to leave this transfer window if we don’t achieve what we think the market value is.”
