Positioned as Pioneer India’s premium offering, the VREC-H520DC offers similar features to the above model but bumps up the video recording resolution to 2K. It also extends ADAS functionality with lane departure alert, forward collision alert and stop-and-go alert. The dash cam also features halo reduction, which is claimed to produce better footage, especially at night.

Pioneer Smart Driving Recorder VREC-Z820DC

The company’s most premium product is the VREC-Z820DC, which comes with a 7.2-inch screen. The device features a night vision camera with Sony Starvis-2 image sensor and 139-degree FoV. It can record HDR video up to 4K resolution. Pioneer India says it leverages AI night vision technology to provide clarity, balance exposure and enhance video effects. Similar to the VREC-H520DC, this model also features ADAS warning and GPS recording capabilities.

Using artificial intelligence, it also supports road sign detection – a feature that often rarely works in India due to graffiti or posters on road signs. Talking to NDTV technology shout about how to solve this problem, Manish Bhasin of Pioneer India Product and R&D emphasized that its dash cams have been trained on an image dataset specifically for India and its road conditions. If humans can see and read road signs, then AI can leverage algorithms as well.

The model is powered by a Neural Processing Unit (NPU), which handles AI tasks on-device, with data stored locally, the company added.

The entire range of Pioneer smart dash cams is said to be compatible with the ZenVue dash cam app. Users can limit distractions, toggle notifications and adjust other settings through the app.
