SINGAPORE (AP) — This week’s Singapore Air Show brings together trade delegations from around the world to showcase the latest civil and military aviation technology.
This year’s event is the 10th edition of the air show, showcasing cutting-edge aircraft from the Royal Australian Air Force and the United States Air Force. These include the F-35 Lightning II, the latest American-made fifth-generation fighter jet that integrates stealth technology and is considered one of the most advanced fighter jets in the world.
Major commercial aircraft manufacturers also touted updates on their fleets, including Airbus, Bombardier, Gulfstream, Boeing and Commercial Aircraft Corporation of China (COMAC).
“We have a great showcase of the latest and greatest events,” said Leck Chet Lam, managing director of Experia Events, which organizes the event. “The Singapore Airshow is unique in that we cover both the aviation and defense industries.”
During an aerial display at the Singapore Air Show, COMAC promoted its C919 passenger jet, which China is eyeing as a replacement for Europe’s Airbus A320neo and the U.S.’s Boeing 737 MAX. The event’s daily air show also featured six military teams and Airbus’ A350-1000 aircraft.
Within the exhibition hall, the air show showcased experimental air taxis, advanced flight simulators, various drones and manned and unmanned helicopters. The static aircraft display under the scorching Singapore sun included about 35 aircraft from more than 10 countries.
More than 1,000 companies from about 50 countries participated in the air show at Changi International Airport, Southeast Asia’s busiest airport. The show, considered Asia’s largest aerospace and defense exhibition, opened on February 3 and will run until February 8.
“All exhibitors can use Singapore as a springboard to seize the growing opportunities in the Asia-Pacific market, which is a key driver of growth in the global aviation industry,” said Lim.
