Packers vs. Broncos: 7 things to know about Green Bay’s Week 15 opponent

The Green Bay Packers will try to win their fifth straight game and defeat an unusual opponent on the road when Matt LaFleur’s team takes on the Denver Broncos in Week 15 at Mile High’s Empower Field. The Broncos have won 10 straight games, are 11-2 overall, and are currently the No. 1 seed in the AFC. Sunday’s showdown in Denver will be the first of back-to-back road games for the Packers, who are currently 9-3-1 and competing for the NFC North title and top seed in the division.

The Packers last faced the Broncos in 2023, when Jordan Love led Green Bay to a 16-3 run but then failed to overcome a 19-17 deficit, one of many close losses early in Love’s first year as a starter. The Packers haven’t won in Denver since 2007 when Brett Favre hit Greg Jennings for the game-winning touchdown pass in overtime.

Here are the details for the Broncos heading into Week 15:

last week

The Broncos trailed on each of their first 12 plays, but they took the lead on a long touchdown run on the opening drive, followed by Marvin Mims’ touchdown return to take a 14-7 lead and a 91-yard touchdown run to extend the lead to 21-7 and a nearly lopsided victory over the Raiders in Las Vegas. Bonix completed 31 of 38 passes as the Broncos rushed for 152 yards, two scores and four sacks, including two by Nik Bonitto. Although Denver only averaged 4.9 yards per game, the offense completed 27 first downs, 7 of 12 third downs, and held the ball for nearly 40 minutes. The Raiders scored 10 points in garbage time.

Newcomer

Second-round pick RJ Harvey is the first running back, and another rookie, JK Dobbins, is on injured reserve. Pro Bowl tight end Evan Engram arrived from Jacksonville and ranked third on the team in receptions. Former 49ers linebacker Dre Greenlaw and former 49ers safety Talanoa Hufanga are both starters on an elite defense. First-round pick Jahdae Barron was a rotation player at cornerback, recording an interception and a fumble in 13 games.

quarterback competition

Bo Nix, the 2024 first-round pick, completed 63.2% of his passes, averaged 6.3 yards per attempt, and had a passer rating of 86.4, both lower than the average starting quarterback and down from his rookie season. Nix has the NFL’s best six-game winning streak, and his 3.29 sack percentage leads all qualifying quarterbacks. Nix ranked tied for sixth with 22 “big throws,” according to PFF, and he ranked second with 32 injuries from falls. While he’ll get designed runs and scramble if given the chance, Nix wants to move the ball — his average catch-to-throw time in 2025 is 2.77 seconds. Knicks is athletic and tough, and he doesn’t wither in big moments.

line of scrimmage

The Broncos are a team that dominates at the line of scrimmage on both sides. According to PFF, the Broncos’ offense ranks first in pass-blocking grade and ninth in run-blocking grade, while the defense ranks sixth in run-defense grade and 12th in pass-rushing grade. The Broncos allowed just 17 sacks, while the defense compiled an NFL-high 55 sacks. In fact, Denver’s defense ranks first in total sacks, quarterback hits (120), sack percentage (10.9) and rushing yards allowed per rush (3.7). On offense, the Broncos have elite players at left tackle (Garrett Bolles) and right guard (Quinn Meinertz), with right tackle Mike McGlinsey and center Luke Wattenberg both solid, reliable players. The problem is at left guard, where 2023 undrafted rookie Alex Palczewski is insecure. The defensive front is filled with disruptive players – Nik Bonitto has 12.5 sacks and 24 quarterback hits, Zach Allen has 6.0 sacks and 34 quarterback hits, and Jonathan Cooper has 7.5 sacks and 12 quarterback hits. The Broncos had nine different players with at least 10 pressures.

turnover

The Broncos had a turnover margin of -3, giving the ball away 13 times and giving up just 10 times. Denver is one of only four playoff teams with a negative turnover differential entering Week 15. Bo Nix has thrown nine interceptions, but surprisingly, the Broncos defense has only taken the ball away 10 times despite plenty of pressure and quarterback hits. Denver only recovered three fumbles, another surprising number. The Broncos are 3-0 when turning the ball over multiple times, so they have the ability to overcome them.

Injury

Defensive lineman DJ Jones (ankle) and tight end Nate Adkins (knee) did not play last week, and the Broncos have nine players – including running back JK Dobbins – on injured reserve, but Sean Payton’s unit is very healthy at this point in the season. Check Wednesday’s injury report to see what the Broncos are dealing with heading into Sunday.

Notes to players

DL Zach Allen: One of the most underrated defensive players on the scene. Allen has an incredible 34 quarterback hits in 2025 and 51 total pressures.

RB RJ Harvey: The rookie running back has totaled 212 yards and three touchdowns in his past three games. He’s a threat out of the backfield, but Harvey is averaging just 3.9 yards per attempt this season.

WR Courtland Sutton: The 6-4 receiver leads the team in targets and catches. In 2024, he had over 1,000 yards receiving and caught eight touchdown passes in Bonix’s first season.

CB Patrick Surtain II: He won’t be as good defensively in 2025, but Surtain is still one of the best defensive corners in the NFL. He has allowed just three touchdown passes over the past two seasons.
