Ortiz Makes AEW Return To Help Old Friend During Worlds End Zero Hour Pre-Show

After Zack Gibson lost to Ortiz’s old friend Eddie Kingston on Saturday’s zero-hour preview before Armageddon, Ortiz returned to AEW and defeated the grizzled young veteran. After the match, Gibson and James Drake beat up Kingston, with Drake choking the “Mad King” with a scarf.

Before the tag team could do more damage to Kingston, Ortiz ran to the ring with a loaded sock. He ran out of GYV and stood in the ring with Kingston. Ortiz hasn’t appeared on AEW programming since an “AEW Collision” match in early 2024, when he and Kingston teamed up to lose to Bryan Danielson and Claudio Castagnoli (then still known as Blackpool Fight Club). Ortiz was out of the ring with a torn pectoral muscle.

Ortiz lost to HOOK in a dark match at “AEW Dynamite: Winter Is Coming” on December 10. He showed the young star the “L” again during a Ring of Honor taping at the Hammerstein Ballroom last week. During his absence from television, Ortiz has been working in AEW in backstage roles such as coach and producer.
