Opinion raises $20 million as prediction markets draw capital in a weak crypto market

Opinion, a blockchain-based prediction market platform, said it raised $20 million in a Series A funding round, highlighting that certain areas of the crypto economy can still attract significant funding even amid a broader market downturn.

According to Wednesday’s email announcement, the funding round includes support from Hack VC, Jump Crypto, Primitive Ventures, Decasonic and others.

Opinion operates more like Polymarket, where markets are settled on-chain, rather than a centralized exchange like Kalshi. “Our settlement happens entirely on-chain,” the Opinion team told CoinDesk via email.

Dune Analytics handles about one-third of the world’s total forecast market volume and holds more than $130 million in open interest, the company said, citing Dune Analytics. Binance Research estimates total trading volume in December was around $7 billion, indicating increasing demand as regulatory and political uncertainty intensifies.

The company’s rise coincides with broader structural growth in the prediction markets industry. Bank of America Citizens noted that prediction markets, once a niche market, are now evolving into a new asset class, with monthly trading volumes of approximately $10 billion as the platform expands beyond sports into macroeconomic and policy outcomes.

The financing also demonstrates that blockchain-native infrastructure that meets real-world needs such as event trading continues to attract investor capital even amid a lull in the cryptocurrency cycle.

The tone of opinion was diverse. While much of the competitor’s activity comes from sports and politics, Opinion’s trading scope spans macro, pre-tokenization events, culture and cryptocurrencies, covering everything from the Consumer Price Index (CPI) to geopolitical outcomes.

Founder and CEO Forrest Liu said the funds will be used to deepen the company’s regional presence and expand globally ahead of the 2026 World Cup and elections.
