Official l Abdoul Koné completes RB Leipzig move but returns to Reims on loan

Stade Reims announced that they have reached an agreement with Red Bull Leipzig on the transfer of Abdel Koné (20 years old), with a contract until 2031. The young French defender will finish the Ligue 2 season with the French club before moving to Germany next June.

“I’m delighted to be taking the next step in my career by joining RB Leipzig and to be able to play there starting this summer. The club’s style of play and direction are perfectly aligned with my development goals.” Cone said on joining the side currently in fourth place in the Bundesliga.

The 1.92m tall giant and France U20 international arrived in Reims from Paris FC in the summer of 2023 and has made 26 appearances for the Champagne-based club. As the undisputed starter in Reims’ defense, Cone has played 18 games for Ligue 2 this season, including 15 starts, contributing 1 goal and 1 assist.

By signing for Leipzig, Cone becomes the eleventh French player to join the Saxon club. He will now follow in the footsteps of Dayo Upamecano, Castro Lukba and Ibrahima Konate who came before him. The fee has not been disclosed but is reported to be around €20 million.
