EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) – A New Mexico State University football player was arrested this weekend and charged with two counts of battery on a family member, according to court documents obtained by KTSM.
Drake Williams, 18, was arrested by New Mexico State University police on Friday, March 13, and booked into the Doña Ana County Detention Facility without bail.

Williams is listed as a sophomore linebacker on the football team’s portal.
According to court documents obtained by KTSM, Williams got into an argument with the victim in his dorm room on March 8. Williams grabbed the victim by her sweater and kicked her out of the room multiple times, documents state. Court documents show the victim had bruises on the back of his neck.
Court documents show the victim and suspect had been in a relationship since the fall of 2025.
Court documents state that on March 12, Williams entered the victim’s room and demanded a debit card that belonged to him and a verbal argument ensued. The verbal altercation turned physical when Williams grabbed the victim’s throat and left arm and demanded the card.

Court documents say the victim did not have bruises on her neck from the incident but did have bruises on her arms, consistent with the statement she gave to police. Her bracelet was also allegedly cut when he grabbed her arm.
“We are aware of the situation and the student-athletes are cooperating with law enforcement. As this is an ongoing issue, we will have no further comment at this time,” a New Mexico State University football spokesperson said.
“As this remains an ongoing criminal investigation, we are unable to provide any additional information at this time other than what is contained in the criminal complaint/warrant,” said NMSU Interim Police Chief Justin Dunivan.
