Nintendo Switch 2 Will Reportedly Launch on March 28

According to the latest news, the successor to Nintendo Switch will be launched on March 28. According to Italian media outlet UAGNA, this day is expected to mark the start of sales of Nintendo Switch 2 accessories. As a result, Nintendo’s next console is expected to launch on the same day. This information is consistent with Nintendo’s confirmation that the Switch successor will be released in the current fiscal year ending March 31, 2025.

Nintendo Switch 2 release date reminder

The UAGNA report cites a “reliable” anonymous industry source as saying that the Nintendo Switch 2 will launch on March 28. “According to our sources, it is expected that Switch 2 accessories made not only by Nintendo but also by third-party companies will be available by then, among which the JoyCon steering wheel, which has been leaked on the Internet in recent days, may also find a place,” the report states (translated from Italian).

“We can therefore deduce that March 28, 2025 will also be the release date of the Switch 2, so Nintendo will follow the previous generation’s launch and release schedule.”

Earlier this year, Nintendo confirmed that an announcement about a Nintendo Switch 2 successor would be made by the end of March 2025.

“We will announce the successor to Nintendo Switch within this fiscal year. It has been more than nine years since we announced the existence of Nintendo Switch in March 2015,” Nintendo President Shuntaro Furkawa said in May.

Nintendo Switch 2 details

Official details about the Switch 2 are scarce, but Nintendo confirmed last month that the console will be backwards compatible with Nintendo Switch games. The Japanese company also announced that Nintendo Switch Online, a Switch subscription service that provides online multiplayer, cloud saves, and access to a curated library of games from older consoles, will be available on the Nintendo Switch 2.

“More information about the Nintendo Switch successor, including compatibility with Nintendo Switch, will be announced at a later date,” Furukawa said during a company briefing in November.

There’s also been some news about the Switch 2’s design and specs over the past few weeks. Most notably, a Reddit user who claimed to have experienced the device himself and later provided photos of the Switch 2 to The Verge said earlier this month that the Switch 2 would feature magnetic Joy-Con controllers, which would eliminate the hybrid console’s notorious stick drift issue.

The leak also claims that the Switch 2 will feature a more powerful base than its predecessor, rated at 60W, while the hybrid console itself is rated at 45W. If these numbers are true, it would be an improvement over the Nintendo Switch, which offers around 18W of power from its 39W AC adapter.
