A direct reveal of the Nintendo Switch 2 is scheduled for Wednesday, where Nintendo will share more details about the Switch successor. The first trailer for Switch 2 was released on January 16, unveiling the hybrid console. Nintendo unveiled the design of the Switch 2, but didn’t go into detail about the device’s features and hardware specs. The company has now revealed that Wednesday’s Nintendo Direct will last around 60 minutes and will detail the Switch 2.
How to Watch the Nintendo Switch 2 Direct Demo
The Nintendo Direct presentation exclusively for Switch 2 will be live on Nintendo’s social channels on Wednesday, April 2. The livestream description on Nintendo’s YouTube channel reads that the livestream will begin at 6am PT / 9am ET or 6:30pm IST and will be “approximately 60 minutes long.” The Direct demo will be entirely dedicated to the Nintendo Switch successor.
What to expect from Nintendo Direct
Nintendo is expected to reveal new details about the Switch 2 during the Direct presentation. While the console is confirmed to launch in 2025, the company has yet to announce a release date. A direct demo may reveal the Switch 2 release date and pricing.
The presentation may also reveal upcoming games coming to Nintendo Switch 2. In the first trailer, Nintendo teased the next Mario Kart game, which will likely run on the Switch 2. In addition to more first-party Nintendo games, a follow-up to Mario Kart 8 may also be unveiled at the Direct showcase.
Nintendo has confirmed that it will hold Treehouse live broadcasts on April 3 and April 4, providing actual gameplay of the Nintendo Switch 2 game. Treehouse livestreams typically feature developers playing new games and discussing them. The Direct demo will likely reveal some games on the Switch 2, which could bring more attention to the Treehouse stream.
The presentation will also likely discuss Nintendo Switch 2 hardware, providing details on specs, new and returning console features, and the performance users can expect from the Switch 2.
Nintendo Switch 2 New “C” Button
Nintendo has yet to provide details about the Switch 2 other than the device’s design. The console is larger than the original Switch and features redesigned Joy-Cons that appear to attach to the console via a magnetic snap mechanism. The first trailer shows off the Switch 2 in black.
Recently, Nintendo teased new buttons on the right Joy-Con. The button first appeared below the home button on the controller in the first look trailer, but a button labeled “C” can be seen in the company’s latest Nintendo Today trailer! app.
The C button can be seen up close in the video, and it produces a special sound effect when pressed. Now, the C button can also be seen on the official Switch 2 website. Nintendo may clarify what the button does during a direct demo on Wednesday.
The original Switch also has a similar square button on the left Joy-Con for capturing screenshots and game clips. The same shooting button can also be seen on the Switch 2’s left Joy-Con.
Nintendo Switch 2 Gamepad
Additionally, in the first look trailer, the new Joy-Con were teased to have mouse functionality. A subsequent patent released by Nintendo in February made the same point. Diagrams in the patent show the new Joy-Con being used like a mouse.
The image shows the user holding the Joy-Con face down, with two fingers on the shoulder buttons and the thumb on the joystick, like a mouse. This week, Nintendo once again previewed the new Joy-Con’s mouse functionality in a Nintendo Direct countdown image shared in Nintendo Today! app.
