Last season was Don Bosco Preparation (New Jersey) heads to the Lone Star State for a regular-season football game, but another New Jersey high school football powerhouse announced its intention to head to Texas on Tuesday.
According to a social media announcement posted by Instagram, Camden The (New Jersey) football team revealed they will travel to Texas to take on the legendary Permian Panthers, the team featured in the hit 2004 movie “Friday Night Lights.”

Camden made program history last season, defeating Malcolm X Shabazz 27-8 to win the 2025 New Jersey State Interscholastic Athletic Association (NJSIAA) Group 2 state championship. Now, the Panthers are making history again by becoming the first New Jersey public school to travel to Texas for a regular-season high school football game.
Permian is ranked No. 74 in the final 2025 Texas high school football rankings. In 2025, they had their strongest season in a decade when they went 11-2 in the UIL Class 6A Division I playoffs and lost 56-13 to state powerhouse Allen.
The Garden State Panthers finished last season ranked No. 14 in the final 2025 New Jersey high school football rankings. Camden’s top returner on offense is junior running back Roman Duckett, who rushed for 730 yards and nine touchdowns last fall.
