Modric reveals the most strict manager he worked with at Real Madrid: ‘Made Cristiano Ronaldo cry’

Real Madrid are already looking for a “new Luka Modric” less than six months after he left the club.

After all, the Croatian star contributes far more to his team’s midfield than just what he does on the ball. He is a midfield leader who takes responsibility and controls the game when the going gets tough.

His departure could indeed be beneficial in the bigger picture, but Real Madrid are struggling without him. At the same time, the 40-year-old Modric has become AC Milan’s main force.

Modric looks back on Real Madrid career

in a recent interview postThe Real Madrid legend spoke about some of the great coaches he worked with during his time at the club and the impression they left on him.

Modric started by talking about Carlo Ancelotti and praised the Italian tactician for his tactical excellence and the personal touch he adds.

“Carlo is number one. It’s difficult to find words to describe it. Because of the way he exists, and not just because of his qualities on the bench. When we were in Madrid we talked many times about Milan and AC Milan. This place is unique for him too.”

“I remember when I met him. I was alone in the city. He called me and said, ‘Come on, have dinner with me.'” We talked for hours about everything. Football, family, life. Often, coaches don’t give players confidence. He does” he added.

“Mourinho? Special. As a coach and a person. He was the one who wanted me to join Real Madrid. Without Mourinho, I would never have arrived. I’m sorry that I only stayed with him for one season.” he said.

The player then made a shocking revelation about how harsh and ruthless Mourinho was in the dressing room, with no sense of favoritism.

“Mourinho is the hardest to deal with. I saw him make Cristiano Ronaldo cry in the dressing room and he is a man who gives his all on the pitch because this time he did not chase the full-backs.”

“Mourinho is very direct with the players but he is honest. He treats Sergio Ramos and the newcomers the same way: if he has to tell you something, he will tell you.” he added.

Finally, the player was asked what he thought of the Messi vs. Cristiano Ronaldo debate and he gave a very mature response.

“It’s a question I don’t like. They marked an era. I prefer Cristiano because I played with him, he was my partner in Madrid and I assure you, he is not only a great footballer; he is an incredible person.”

“People don’t know it, but he has a big heart and is always ready to help others. And he’s a simple, normal guy,” he added.

When asked about Messi, Modric said: “I don’t know him as a person, but I have no doubt he’s extraordinary as well. As a player, he’s great.”
