A massive rivalry looms later this week, but Michigan State must first avoid a frustrating hurdle at Rutgers on Tuesday night.
The Spartans will travel east for a tricky road game at Rutgers on Tuesday night. This falls into the classic “trap game” category and MSU will face rival Michigan State in a top-10 game on Friday.

Michigan State will be looking to keep the firepower going in this game, with the Spartans now riding a six-game winning streak. Michigan State, which beat Maryland by 43 points in its last game, now sits at 18-2 overall and 8-1 in Big Ten play.
Rutgers is currently one of only a few Big Ten teams below .500 this season. The Scarlet Knights have lost four of their last five games and currently sit at 9-11 and 2-7 in Big Ten play.

prophecy: Michigan State 76, Rutgers 58
I don’t expect the Spartans to have the same beating performance they did against the Terps on Saturday, but this is a similarly caliber opponent, so this should be another blowout. There’s the travel factor and MSU’s potential going forward, but it’s going to take real work to succeed at Jersey Mike’s Arena. Michigan State is so deep and they will win again in this game with a suffocating defense.
