MG ZS Electric SUV First Look Revealed: Expected Price, Features, Specifications, and More

Ahead of the launch, MG released pictures of the ZS EV. The MG ZS EV will be replaced by an electric SUV that will make its public debut in the UK next year. It’s called the MG ES5 in China, and its main competitors are the Hyundai Kona Electric, Kia EV3 and Skoda Elroq. According to sources, the electric vehicle will not be called the “ZS EV.” However, it will have a similar design to MG’s current EV portfolio, particularly the MG4 hatchback.

Compared with the previous generation model, the design style of MG ES5 is relatively mild. Observed in the pictures are slimmer headlights, black plastic side cladding, large chrome MG octagonal badge, full-width light bar with Y-shaped taillights and roof rails. The central touchscreen is the focal point of the minimalist interior design. The UK version’s cabin design may be different, but there may be similarities with recent MG models.

Dimensions and platforms

The ZS replacement will be lower, wider and longer than the current model.
It’s much longer than the Hyundai Kona Electric, measuring 4,476 mm and about 120 mm longer. In addition, its wheelbase is 2,730 mm, providing more interior space. It is built using MG’s Modular Scalable Platform (MSP). Multiple battery and motor configurations are also supported.

scope

The MG ES5 is likely to share similar powertrain options with the MG4. It will be rear-wheel drive, and the electric motor is expected to produce 168 to 242 horsepower. Given that the chassis supports dual motor installations, an all-wheel drive version may be available in the future.

Pricing

MG UK aims to launch the ES5 with a starting price of less than £30,000, which is significantly lower than other car companies’ prices. This competitive pricing strategy could give MG a significant boost.

In addition to the ES5, MG is also developing electric vehicles to compete with the likes of the Enyaq and Renault Scenic.

Future plans to launch in India

The automaker also announced that it will launch new energy vehicles in the next few years due to demand for the ZS EV.

Therefore, it is reasonable to expect the new ZS EV (ES5) to arrive in India. Interestingly, MG may also launch ICE and hybrid versions of this car. Despite poor sales, MG may improve its appearance. The company will also launch the hybrid Astor as part of its new energy vehicle lineup for the Indian market. The ES5 will likely have a noticeable impact on both cars.
